This TAG-approved hotel isn't much for the luxury, but what it does have is location, location, location. Situated right Rembrandt Plaza, rooms here are pretty basic, but they're also pretty affordable.

Now this is mainly a gay-boy hotel, but a few lesbians I've spoken to who've stayed there in the past said they were totally welcomed and felt quite comfortable there, so I've decided to include it here as well. A sleekly designed space, you should just make sure to book a room that has a private bath. Breakfast is included in the price (with very civilized hours, serving 'til 1 p.m.), as is free wifi. Amistad also rents out a couple of nearby apartments and penthouses which is another option.

ITC Hotel
A beautiful canal-side house on one of the most picturesque streets in Amsterdam. ITC is conveniently located close to most of the lesbian spots, which is a definite bonus. What's also interesting about ITC is that it's one of the few "gay and lesbian" hotels that actually has a mixed clientele, as compared to only gay men or only gay women.

The hotel was undergoing renovations when I stayed there. For the price, it was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Super location. Unfortunately, the wireless Internet was non-existent.

Johanna's Bed and Breakfast
Lesbian-run bed and breakfast located in a hipster, west-end neighbourhood near the Westergasfabriek. Johanna only has two rooms available, and while they’re often booked by lesbians, gay boys (and all others, in fact) are welcome. Beware of the very fat cat named Louis. This is a no smoking zone.

This one is for ladies only. A seven-room bed and breakfast (only two of which have private bathrooms.) No kids, no pets and no smoking in the rooms, but puff away in the common spaces. Slightly more upscale than Johanna’s (see above.)

Lloyd Hotel
Opened in 2004, Lloyd hotel is a total design-lover's dream come true. What's great about this place is that they offer rooms from one to five stars, with rates to go with it. Each room has some interesting element of design from some of the hottest names in the Netherlands and the hotel also has a "Cultural Embassy" which hosts a variety of artistic and cultural events for free. Lloyd attracts a very mixed gay/lesbian/straight clientele.

If you're looking for some five-star luxury in the heart of Amsterdam, the Grand Krasnapolsky is one of the best you'll find. Very gay-friendly, this huge hotel (450+ rooms) known as "the Kras" by locals also has a couple of excellent restaurants.

Another mainstream, yet TAG-approved hotel that makes an effort to attract gay and lesbian visitors. One of the bigger hotels in Amsterdam (with 242 rooms), this Radisson is located in the heart of Amsterdam. While it's more expensive than the smaller hotels and B&Bs, you also get great service and a bit more space in your room.
