Betty Boop
This brown café (that’s a pot café in Amsterdam speak) isn't exclusively for the queers, but there's definitely a regular gay crowd and very gay-friendly staff. Women travelling on their own often feel quite comfortable here.
Nieuwezijds Kolk 12
Amsterdam
A Brown Café is NOT a pot café, it is a typical local bar where young and old sit down for a coffee or a beer and eat the daily menu. Don't think it's all about pot just because it's Amsterdam..

Bistro Bij Ons
Few tend to write home about the fabulous Dutch cuisine they experienced in Amsterdam, but this little resto may make you do just that. Run by Carla and Esther, this lesbian-popular spot offers up local treats like stampot and boerenkool (I'd suggest you get a local to help you with saying those ones!) at affordable prices.

De Peper
This could go in restaurants like it could go in bars. De Peper is “is a non-commercial, not-for-profit café project located within the former Netherlands Film Academy (OT301), a legalised squat with a large performance/rehearsal space, cinema, and gallery with an inspired programme of [sub]cultural activities.” Everything is organic and inexpensive. There are three regular events of interest to us ladies: On the first Saturday of the month it’s their queer party, Hot Peper. On the last Saturday of the month it’s International Women’s Café for women only and on the fourth Wednesday of the month it’s the Feminist Salon with food, film and discussion. Always reserve ahead for dinner.

Dolores Snackbar
This teeny, tiny, converted century-old tram shed is an organic foodie’s delight. It’s a snack bar kind of place, with delicious veggie burgers and smoothies.

Hemelse Modder
Good food, friendly service, great canal location and a lovely outdoor patio. A perfect recipe to attract the bent set.

Kitsch
Kitsch may be the name, but glamorous and kinky may be a better way to describe this restaurant. Gay boys are in the majority here, but lesbians also drop by for some of their gastronomical delights, like “Pussy and Potatoes” aka oyster and chips. Another bonus is the water tap at every table so you can serve yourself.

More boys than girls the night I went. The food and service were quite good. I ended up speaking with a gentleman from England throughout my entire dinner and had a really nice relaxing time. The water tap was cool too!

The Garlic Queen
A restaurant dedicated to….you guessed it, garlic! Pretty much every item on their menu has some sort of garlic component, but if you’re out to impress on a first date, you can order most items garlic-free. Popular haunt for both gay girls and boys.
Reguliersdwarsstraat 27

The Other Side
Amsterdam’s only truly gay brown café. You’ll see more boys, but girls also drop by. Excellent menu of both pot and hash, and if you don’t want to smoke it, they also offer a popular cannabis tea.

Vandenberg
A tiny café that’s very popular with middle aged dyke couples. Light atmosphere and pretty good food, it’s a relaxing spot.

February 21, 2010 This cafe is either closed on Sundays or closed for business. A sign in the window directs you to a Brasserie nearby - on the corner of Prinsengracht & Herenstraat - which is either closed on Sunday or opens for dinner (after 5pm).
