Lesbian Community Care Project Ball

Without a doubt, this is the "seen and be seen" lesbian event of the year in Chicago. A swanky night out with a hefty ticket price, the ball is an integral fundraiser for the Lesbian Community Care Project. In a tux or ballgown, here's your chance to meet the movers and shakers of the local lesbian community.
Estrogen Fest

Okay, this fest isn’t annual, but rather bi-annual, and will be returning in 2009. All the same, watch out for it. “Rebelling against oversaturated voices and sound bite fever, we offer complex female voices from diverse backgrounds, generations and disciplines.” Dark, comic, quirky, original, reckless, unexpected, entertaining, and all women. That’s Est Fest.
The AltQ Festival

A one-night alternative queer performance festival. “The ALT Q Festival is a celebration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered experience through music and performance. A portion of the proceeds of this event are given to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.”
Mid-West GLBT Sports and Cultural Festival

This annual six-week festival usually draws upwards of 4500 participants, mostly from the States, but from foreign countries as well.
Queer Prom

Like the name states, this is a prom open to all LGBT youth in high school or college. Presented by Homofrequencia, a local Latin American LGBT radio show, the event will take place at the National Museum of Mexican Art. If you don't have a date, no worries, there will be tons of people to meet and hang out with!
Citywide Pride

"Citywide Pride is a coalition of Chicagoland companies coming together during Pride Month (June) to celebrate diversity in the workplace. In particular, the consortium strives to educate and empower the GLBT workforce and their allies. A wide array of GLBT-focused educational and celebratory events are held throughout the month"

Chicago’s annual pride celebrations, attracting upwards of half a million participants! There are several huge parties throughout the week leading up to the parade, with many just for us ladies.
Chicago Dyke March

For the first time in the 12-year history of Chicago's Dyke March, in 2008 the march was held not in lesbian-popular Andersonville, but in the predominantly Mexican neighbourhood of Pilsen. This was a conscious decision made on the part of the Dyke March committee, in an attempt to open up dialogue in regards to the LGBT community. From here on in, Chicago's dyke march will be changing neighbourhoods from year to year.
RAD Conference: Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf

Windy City Black Pride

Chicago's annual Black Pride celebrations, taking place a couple of weeks after the general pride festivities.
GenderPAC's Annual Celebrity Cook-Off

2009 is the 5th edition of this deliciously queer annual event. Each year, celebrity LGBT chefs face-off over hollandaise sauce and the perfectly grilled asperagus. Last year's participants included Top Chef celesbian Josie Smith-Malave and others, all to benefit the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition.
Northalsted Market Days

What started out as a small little outdoor fair back in the early 1980s has now grown into one of the biggest street festivals in the Midwest. Smack dab in the middle of Boystown, there are more than 400 vendors, three performance stages and tens of thousands of visitors to this two-day event.
Decibelle (formerly known as EstroJam)

Ladies rockin’ out for this annual girl music festival… and this ain’t Michigan girl-music we’re talking about! Some recent performers include Nina Hagan, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Tuna Helpers, Yo Majesty, Theo from Lunachicks, Bitch, Miss Kitten and the Hackers and so many more. There’s also workshops, panels, parties and a film fest to make this an all-round event.
Reeling: Chicago Lesbian and Gay International Film Fest — Updated

This is the 2nd oldest lesbian and gay film festival in the U.S, running for a full ten days every November. There are lots of screenings just for us girls, including a few sell-outs, so you may want to buy your tickets early.
Chi-Town Shakedown

Chicago will host the 27th annual gay square dance convention. This yearly event attracts a few thousand participants, both men and women.
