Sports Associations
Chicago Force
Watch out LaDainian Tomlinson, here comes the Chicago Force, the Windy City’s women’s full tackle football team! There is some tough action here, with the gals playing teams from competing cities every Saturday, April through June. Check their schedule to see when they’re playing at home or away.
Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association (CMSA)
The CMSA is the largest non-profit gay and lesbian sports association in the American Midwest. They run a number of their own leagues (like a women’s softball league, see below) and are affiliated with others.
Chicago Smelts
"The Chicago Smelts are Chicago's mostly gay and lesbian Masters Swim Club, encouraging fun and participation in the sport of swimming. Members need not be gay or lesbian, but they should respect that most of the members will be." Newbies and visitors are welcome, but you must be a registered Masters swimmer.
Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago
The Windy City edition of this international LGBT running/walking association. FRFW Chicago meets at the totem pole in Lincoln Park (at Addison) on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m., and Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. On the second Saturday of the month there’s a special women’s only run followed by a group brunch. Guests are always welcome.
Illinois Gay Rodeo Association
Not only for the boys, cowgirls are also welcome! They hold their annual Windy City Rodeo every August.
Second City Tennis
Gay and lesbian tennis club that hosts the annual Second City Tennis Classic, with singles and doubles draws in five skill divisions for both men and women. Visitors are welcome throughout the year and especially for the competition.
Softball Divas
2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the CMSA’s women’s softball league. Even though visitors can’t play, they can certainly be spectators. So if you’re looking for a field full of lesbians, you’ll find them here, April through September!
Team Chicago
Umbrella group for a number of LGBT sporting groups and associations. They help groups attend LGBT sporting events worldwide, and host the annual “mini-Gay Games”, the Mid-West GLBT Sports and Cultural Festival
Windy City Athletic Association
The second main LGBT sports association in Chicago. They run basketball, darts, bowling, softball and volleyball leagues.
Windy City Cycling Club
An LGBT cycling club that hosts several rides throughout the summer months. There's also a special outing especially for women called Dykes Pedaling Bikes. Check their calendar for more details.
