Bars, Nights & Clubs
Barbara’s Pavillion
A fun, little Oak Cliff spot that’s dark and comfy inside with a small outdoor patio in back. An easy-going, equal opportunity gay and lesbian hipster spot, it’s got a lot more of a Seattle or Portland feel than most other neighbourhood bars found in Dallas.

Buddies II
This one goes into the “you’ve gotta see it to believe it” lesbian bars. Not content with just booze, music and a pool table, Buddies II has a small pool, a beach ball volleyball court that is totally popular in the warm (but not searing hot) months, an arcade, karaoke, sun deck and BBQ on Sundays! This is place where you go to drink and hang out with friends, or make new ones.

Chick Happy Hour
An amazing, monthly lesbian get-together. Imagine a few hundred totally hot women partying in a different venue each month and that’s Chick Happy Hour. It usually takes place on a Thursday and even though so many women attend, there is no website for info. Instead, emails are sent to subscribers letting them know about the next event, even though it’s open to all. Since you’re a visitor, I’d suggest taking a look at the calendar from the website below to find out when it’s happening. Seriously, if you’re in town when this is on, get going!

Club Big Yo
These ladies host one-off events in both Houston and Dallas, and are especially popular with African-American women. Check their Myspace calendar for upcoming events.
Grapevine
Is it a gay bar? A lesbian bar? Straight bar? It all depends upon who you ask. This really is a fun spot for anybody to drop by for a drink, but the ladies seem to appreciate it most on Sunday afternoons.

Guerilla Gay Bar
Once a month, local queers band together and take over an unsuspecting straight bar. There’s more men than women, but it’s still a fun adventure.
Jack's Chill Grill
This one could go in either the bar section here or the restaurant section as it's truly a mix of both. In fact, Jack's has a bit of everything: big screen sports, live music, good eats and an all-round laid-back feeling. The Jack in the name refers to Kathy Jack, a well-known lesbian club manager in Dallas.

JR's
The boy-centric bookend to Sue Ellen’s (see below), JR’s is still a great spot to stop by for a drink, especially early in the evening for happy hour. The only real downside from my point of view is the fact that the women’s toilets don’t have any doors on the stalls! Seriously. Just remember to bring a friend to patrol when you need to visit the loo.

Kaliente
Dallas has a huge Hispanic population, and this is their local gay community’s club of choice. It’s more of a boy bar, but women drop by more on Friday and Saturday nights. The speakers are pumping wth Salsa and Tejano music, and these kids know how to dance!

Lezi-Faire events
These ladies host one-off women’s events in both Dallas/Ft. Worth and Austin, Texas.
Round-Up Saloon
This is Dallas, so there’s got to be at least one country’n’western bar in town! And yes, the Round-Up is it. There’s always more men than women, but no matter what it’s a great place to check out some same-sex two-steppin’.

Station 4 (aka S4)
More of a boy bar, this is still a somewhat mixed spot, especially on Wednesday and Sunday nights when the 18+ crowd is allowed in.

Sue Ellen’s
Named after the character from the iconic television show “Dallas”, this lesbian bar originally opened back in 1989. Amazingly enough though, it remained so busy over the years that they moved into a new venue in spring, 2008. This massive new location has a huge dancefloor and a second floor performance space that is exceptionally sound-proofed so performers never hear the music below.
