Other Fun Stuff
Broward County Derby Girls
Regular visitors to this site know I have a longstanding love affair with everything roller derby, so make sure to check these ladies out! Their season usually runs from spring right through to the end of the year.
F4U (2nd Wednesday of the month at Cinema Paradiso)
Once a month you can catch a first-run queer flick at this monthly LGBT movie night. The film starts at 8 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale
Flamingo Freedom Band
This marching band has about "50 members and continues to harmonize the community by offering lesbian and gay men the opportunity to communicate through music, perform fund-raisers throughout South Florida, socialize, and express gay pride."
Haulover Beach
This is one of the two main gay beaches in the Ft. Lauderdale area, but it's a nudie beach and requires some driving to get there. Located closer to Miami, Haulover beach is part of Haulover Park. It's the northern part of the beach that's clothing optional, just past the tunnel, and there's waaaaay more men than women.

HRC Women’s Mixers
This is the regular women's event (it usually happens on the 3rd Thursday of the month) hosted by the local Human Rights Campaign office.
Intoxiskate (Tuesdays at the Gold Coast Roller Skating Rink)
Tuesdays have been the gay night at this rink for more than 40 years! Expect lots of fun music with some of Lauderdale's top DJs. Lotsa boys and still a fair number of girls.
Lambda Chorale
A truly equal opportunity gay and lesbian community choir. They perform several times a year in South Florida.
Laugh Out Loud
This is a bit of an original night brought to you by the ladies from Pandora Events, seeing as it's not a club night, but a monthly comedy night. Expect to see top lesbian comedians such as Suzanne Westenhoefer. Check their website for upcoming dates.
Lavender Sisters Open Mic (every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center)
"Join beautiful and talented women as they share their comedy, music, singing, poetry and prose with you every third Thursday of the month. Performers are limited to three poems or five minutes- whichever comes first."

Rising Action Theatre Company
A charmingly small, yet wonderful, gay and lesbian theatre company. Support local artists!
San Sebastian Beach
Well, this is Ft. Lauderdale, so of course you'll end up at the beach. If it's important for you to go where the (clothed) gays are, then you'll be heading over to the beach by State Route A1A (also known as Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. and Seabreeze Blvd.) between Sunrise Blvd. south to the Las Olas Blvd. area. For the nudie gays, check out Haulover Beach above.

Sol Theatre Company
Amazingly enough, Ft. Lauderdale has two full-time queer theatre companies (Rising Action, above is the other). Check out their website to see if there may be any shows of interest when you're in town. It's always an excellent idea to promote local gay and lesbian culture!
South Florida Mustangs Square Dance Club
For all gay and lesbian square dance fans. They usually have a dance night on Thursdays in Ft. Lauderdale, so check their website for info.
South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble
A semi-professional LGBT concert band. This group holds a number of concerts throughout the year.
Southern Country South Florida
Yee-haw, here's the place to indulge in all of your country'n'western dance moves. While it is a "gay and lesbian" club, there are usually more men than women.
Stonewall Library & Archives
Located (for now) in the gay and lesbian community center, this is a great spot to learn about LGBT history and borrow queer-themed books or films and peruse gay and lesbian periodicals from around the world. They also host regular events like lesbian-movie nights, so check out their website for more. In the summer of 2008, the archives took possession of a new space that they will be moving to in 2009 that is separate from the community center.
