Kelly McGillis Classic International Women’s Flag Football Championship
Feb 1 - Feb 9, 2009
So before you even ask, yes, it’s that Kelly McGillis, butch Top Gun lawyer who most recently played a military lawyer in the Tasha L-Word court case. The IWFFA is the largest women’s international flag football tournament in the world! Always held during the second week of February, hundreds of women from the U.S., Canada and Europe attend this annual event. With four full days of competition, there are also social events, parties and water sports like snorkeling and sailing.
Gay Spring Break
Late Feb - Early Apr, 2009 (TBA)
Launched in 2007, this is an official effort by Key West to attract younger LGBT visitors. It’s mostly guys that showed up in the first year, but Key West is making huge efforts to attract more lesbians to its town, with everything from women’s nights to lesbian wet t-shirt contests! They organize all kinds of events over this six week period, like beach parties, drag shows, snorkeling, jet-skiing and more, with many of them repeating every week so visitors never really miss out on any of the fun.
PrideFest Key West

Lots of stuff happening in Key West during this Pride week including the annual "Celebrating Achievements in Pride" awards, the Mr., Ms. and Miss PrideFest competitions, the Duval Street fair and the Pride Parade.
Tropical Heat Key West

August in Key West is definitely hot and steamy, so now the town has decided it’s time for the queers to enjoy that heat in a grown-up way. Tropical Heat calls itself an “erotic weekend of gay and lesbian adult fun that will challenge your tan line in a way that only a unique town like Key West could do. Adult themed entertainment and events the entire weekend on a charming island where all the bars and guesthouses are within walking distance.” Several events are either for men or women only.
Women on Film Festival

A lesbian film festival that takes place during Womenfest Key West. It usually lasts three days and has five different screenings…. all early enough in the evening so you can join in on the rest of the day’s Womenfest celebrations.
WomenFest

The number one lesbian event of the year in Key West, Womenfest attracts thousands of women for this week-long celebration. Generally speaking, the ladies here are slightly older than what you’ll see at other lesbian circuit parties like Dinah Shore or Aqua Girl, with most women in their mid-30s and up. There’s pool parties, sunset sails, comedy shows, dance parties and even a lesbian film festival!
Fantasy Fest

A Mardi-Gras style celebration, but taking place in October. Fantasy Fest isn’t just for gays and lesbians, but it’s definitely for adults. With body painting, costumes, booze and dancing, Fantasy Fest is the epitome of Key West celebrations with a very strong queer contingent. There’s everything from the Royal Coronation Ball benefiting AIDS Help to Dungeons & Dragons, a leather fetish party to the Headdress Ball, street fair and Masquerade March. The regular population of Key West is about 27 000, but for Fantasy Fest that number jumps to 80 000!
