Introduction

Hello ladies, and welcome to lesbian Mecca… Nirvana… Lesbian Travel Heaven… words can barely describe it! Seriously, you can pretty much live a full-time lesbian-only life here in London with almost no effort. There are so many lesbian bars, restaurants, cafes, social groups…. the list goes on and on. I’ll do my best to give you the hippest and brightest dyke spots to check out during a stay in London, but undoubtedly I’ll miss a few things as there’s just too much out there! (and what an odd thing it is to say this in regards to lesbian fun in a city…) London dyke nights are also notorious for changing dates and venues, so always try to check if a party’s on before heading out. And if you see that something has changed and we haven’t made the update, please let us know so other users can benefit from your knowledge.

Soho is the gayest of gaybourhoods, but you’ll also find lots of lesbians living in Stoke Newington, located in the North/North East London borough called Hackney. Even though you’ll find queers all over the city, other neighbourhoods to check out include Earl’s Court in the west, Islington in the north and Vauxhall and Brixton in the south. One of the first things you should do when you arrive in London is pick up a copy of G3, an amazing free lesbian monthly magazine distributed in homo haunts throughout the city. There you’ll find all the latest about one-off and upcoming events that may be of interest.

London is incredibly gay-friendly, so no matter where you stay during your travels, you shouldn’t encounter any problems when you check in with your girlfriend. In fact, there isn’t even a women-only hotel or bed and breakfast in town…. There’s just no need.

One other thing to keep in mind, for those of us from smaller lesbian cities or towns (and that can include Chicago or Berlin) where a $5 entrance fee to a dyke club is considered exorbitant…. You may find the entrance fees into some (but not all) of these clubs and dyke nights quite steep, sometimes (but rarely) up to £12-15, and drinks aren’t cheap either. But it’s usually worth it, so just fork out the cash, walk right in, and have a blast. Might as well, you’re on vacation!

And last but not least, of course one could easily spend a couple of weeks in London without becoming bored, but if you’re looking for a bit of an escape from the big city life you may consider a short jaunt out to Brighton, a very gay waterfront town about an hour away. To boot, it’s super-accessible by public transportation.
