Introduction
There’s no doubt about it, Los Angeles is the land of the beautiful people. Even though many complain the L Word has no basis in reality, a visit to L.A. may have you thinking at least a little bit differently. Are all the girls as glamorous as Bette or Helena? Of course not, but you’ll sure see more femmey or “power” lesbians here than probably anywhere else in the world. Will you find your own little version of the Planet? No, you won’t find that either, but there are spaces where you’ll find hot lesbians aplenty, making Los Angeles a great lesbian travel destination.
Now Lala land itself is an unusual sort of city. First off, you’ll want to rent wheels when you travel here because everything is sooooo far away and nobody really uses public transit or walks to actually get somewhere, even though they religiously cycle, rollerblade and jog to keep in shape. Of course, that also means the traffic sucks and it can take forever to get from one place to the next. To boot, Los Angeles is actually a collection of neighbourhoods, each one a city unto itself. The gayest of the gaybourhoods is West Hollywood, but don’t limit yourself, as there are a lot of other queer-friendly options to consider including the dyke popular Silver Lake, Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Westwood.
If you’re hoping to do some partying while in Los Angeles, think “lesbian calendar.” Pretty much every day of the week there is a different dyke event that the girls here have scheduled into their Blackberrys. There are also a few full-time lesbian bars, but they’re the kind of places where you’ll go for a drink, and not necessarily to dance and let loose.
