A Club Called Rhonda (2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at Guatelinda)
L.A. Weekly recently voted A Club Called Rhonda the best "poly" party in LaLaLand. So what does that mean? It means that this anything goes, polysexual extravaganza is a hot place to be. Housed in an unexpectedly tacky East Hollywood Latino bar, Rhonda has something for everyone, just as long as you're willing to play along with whatever comes your way.

Abbey Food and Bar
The Abbey started out as an upscale coffee house back in the early 90s, but since then it has grown to be a complete space with bar, restaurant, lounge and more. The super-popular Abbey could have gone under our “bar” listings or “restaurants” as the hipster lesbians like it for both... especially on Sunday afternoons.

My partner and I frequent the Abbey when we're in LA and its still cool. The martini list is outstanding. They've done some remodeling and its quite nice so don't rule it out.

Catwalk (1st Friday of the month at Vertigos)
This super-popular monthly party is heavy on the new wave, hip hop, indie and house. It's one of the longer running parties in L.A., celebrating its 4th anniversary in August, 2009.

Club La Zeez (2nd Saturday of the month at Stone Bar)
"From Saleem, one of the promoters and lead dancers of the famous 1001 Nights comes club La Zeez, playing the best of Arabic / Latin / Indian / Middle Eastern / Persian / Armenian music and hottest International hits." It may be hosted by a gay man, but this is an LGBT party.

Coco Bongo
Open Wednesday through Sunday, this mainly lesbian bar is especially popular with Latina women. There's go-go girls, pool tables and lots of merengue, reggaeton and hip hop on the turntables.

Girlbar (Fridays at Ultra Suede bar)
This is the original Girlbar party from founders Robin Gans and Sandy Sachs. Started back in 1990, it’s still going strong.

Nothing like girl bar in Las Vegas, not very many cute girls (thought it was the land of beautiful people) and their go go dancers could not dance! I wasn't very impressed (especially since we drove over an hour to get there).
angelz1luv on Nov 26, 2008
I beg to differ, it all started with Peanut's in West Hollywood in the seventies and was booming in the early 80's as the hottest lesbian dance club and show in town.
Alicia on Dec 23, 2007
Far from being the original, GirlBar is a pale copy of the first lipstick-lesbian bars in the mid-80's (Clones/Solo by Caroline & Christine, Beat City by Hallie Rosen, etc ). These clubs rose to popularity around the same time as Madonna, and attracted a very different sort of crowd than the plaid-shirted pool-hall crowd of the 1970's. They started the tradition of the White Party in Palm Springs for Dinah Shore Weekend.

girlCRUSH! (Thursdays at Jimmy's Lounge)
Here's another change to get your party on before the weekend! A newbie club night at Jimmy's Lounge (launched August, 2009), count on lots of hip hop, reggae and top 40 until the wee hours.

Guerrilla Gay Bar (every 2nd Friday of the month at various locatons)
Now this is mostly a boy thing, but some girls do come along and it’s such a cool idea that I thought it worth listing. Here’s what they say about themselves: “Guerrilla Gay Bar is a combination of flashmob and the French Revolution. Only gayer. (Fewer decapitations). On the second Friday of every month, GGB takes over the coolest straight bar we can find in the greater Los Angeles area. We don't tell ‘em we're coming - we'll just show up - by the hundreds - and make ourselves at home. The actual location will not be announced until one day prior to each event, when we'll give you the full lowdown by email and on our website.” Excellent.
JetSetter (Thursdays at Crown Bar)
Brought to you by Mariah Hanson of Club Skirts Dinah Shore fame, this West Hollywood women's night is where all the hot ladies gather to start out their weekend. The Crown Bar is an amazing spot, but I have to share a little FYI though: mixed drinks are super-expensive, about $15 a pop!

Jewel’s Catch One
Catch One opened its doors back in 1972 “as the nation’s first Black gay and lesbian disco.” It was popular then and it’s still popular today (in fact, this is where her Madgesty, Madonna, launched her Music CD back in 2000). Nowadays the club draws in all kinds: gays, lesbians, straights, and “alternative life style enthusiasts,” with everything from Goth nights to booty-call bonanzas.

Ladies Touch
Ladies Touch is a lesbian party promoter group that hosts all kinds of events that are especially popular with African-American women.
Latin Girlbar (last Saturday of the month at Ultra Suede)
Girlbar goes Latin on the last Saturday of the month. Expect a similar kind of night that you'll find at the weekly Girlbar parties (see above), but with a distinctly Latin flavor. Muy caliente!

Lesbian Attack
Similar to the Guerilla Gay Bar groups that exist all around the world, Lesbian Attack brings a huge group of lesbians to different straight bars around Los Angeles. The events only take place every few months, but usually attract a few hundred women. Since the idea is to go to a bar without the owners knowing that Lesbian Attack is happening, you should either check out their Facebook page or join their mailing list for details on the next event.
Little Joy Cocktail Lounge (especially on Sunday nights)
Very deceptive hole-in-the-wall, this place has become a popular stop for the younger, cool, artsy lesbian set. Not strictly a dyke bar, there’s a mixed clientele.

Miss Kitty’s Parlour (Fridays at Dragonfly)
Boys, girls and all those in-between flock to Miss Kitty’s Parlour for this polysexual extravaganza. It’s a dance party with cabaret-style entertainment, be it burlesque, fire-eaters, stilt walkers, dirty go-go girls and more. No dress code in effect, but the more outrageous or revealing, the better.
6510 Santa Monica Blvd.

MoonShadow
NoHo lesbian bar with a number of special event evenings, like their Tuesday karaoke parties and Wednesday 80s dance nights, which attract a slightly older crowd. Cheap beer on Sundays is another big draw.

Normandie Room
I love this bar’s motto: "No Homophobes, No Heterophobes, No Assholes." Plain and simple, they want you girls to have fun drinking, with no pretensions and no drama. This isn’t a dance club, just a full-time dyke pub for cocktails, conversation and maybe a game of pool.

Panty Raid (Thursdays at Here Lounge)
The weekly watering hole for ladies who enjoy a good stiff cheap drink and the chance to dance like maniac after a hard days work. $5 gets you entry and all you can drink until 11pm!! Brought to you by the ladies of Fuse (see Truck Stop below), this is a hot, pre-weekend party for those who don't have to worry about waking up early on Friday!

West Hollywood
Pimp & Push (Saturdays at Hollywood Canteen)
Whooowheee! This is one serious dance party! A newbie on the scene (launched Feb, 2009), on one floor you'll hear electro, indie and 80s hits, while on the other floor it's all about hip hop, reggae and r'n'b.
1006 Seward St.

Platinum (Thursday nights at the East/West Lounge)
Upscale weekly cocktail event just for the girls in this super-swanky space that has won several awards and accolades, including best lesbian party of 2008 by LA Magazine. East/West is also known for serving some kick-ass martinis.

The Palms
This is the classic L.A. lesbian hangout. Palms has been around for almost thirty years now and it shows no signs of slowing down. It generally attracts a slightly older crowd, going a bit younger on the weekends. It’s a friendly, kind of no-frills bar with a nice patio, billiard tables and lots of micro-brewery beers. Even better, it’s all lesbian, all the time.

Hate that low grade bar! Class and tact you will not find in the kind of women that frequent this establishment. The manager is rude and lacking in professionalism and the music is mediocre.

Titties and Wine Tuesdays (Tuesdays at the Must Bar)
I like it when club nights give you a good idea of what you should expect out of your evening... sorta like the way Titties and Wine does. Well, you may not see any actual titties in their natural splendor, but you will see lots of ladies for this weekly women's event at a popular wine bar and gastro pub.

Tomboiswagg Productions
These ladies do a number of events throughout the year that are especially popular with African American women.
Truck Stop (Friday nights at Here Lounge)
With Truck Stop the Fuse girls (see the Thursday night Panty Raid party at Here Lounge) are competing with the longstanding Girlbar party. But it’s a bit of a different crowd over at Truck Stop, with the gals there to enjoy 80’s rock, pop and dance. The “Truck Stop Girls” are another added bonus.

Definitely check this out. We went in August 2008 and the music was more of a hip hop, pop, latin mix with a few old school favorites. We had a great time and yes the Truck Stop Girls are very nice. =)
