Fusion: The Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival

Yet another festival presented by the gang behind Outfest, the annual local LGBT film fest. This three-day festival offers extraordinary films, music, spoken word, workshops and panels from LGBT People of Color. It's believed to be the only multicultural, gender-inclusive film festival of its kind.

Women's Night / L.A.C.E. Awards

Short for “Lesbians and bisexual women Active in Community Empowerment”, L.A.C.E. is considered one of the hottest lesbian events not only in California, but possibly around the world. Each year they honor dykes who’ve made a difference, from Ellen DeGeneres to Gloria Steinem, Donna Deitch, Sandra Bernhardt, Lily Tomlin, Ilene Chaiken…. You get the idea. Imagine more than 1000 hip, inspiring and hot lesbians all in one room, and you’ve got the L.A.C.E. Awards.

I atttended last year and it was an awesome time. What a diverse group of women honoring, celebrating, and partying together. I can wait for this year's event.

Lambda Literary Awards

Lovingly referred to as “the lammies”, the Lambda Literary Awards are considered the biggest night in LGBT publishing. 25 awards are handed out, many of them just for lesbians.
WeHo Dyke March

If you can't make the L.A. Dyke March, there’s always the Friday night West Hollywood one! Presented by the Lesbian Visibility Committee of the City of West Hollywood, this annual dyke march always attracts some major talent and cute lesbians! In 2007, MEN (the women of Le Tigre) were in charge of the DJ duties and Me'Shell Ndegeocello performed at the after-party.
Tongue to Tongue: Provoking Critical Dialogues Among Queer Women of Color

“Tongue to Tongue is a dialogue among queer women of color which will feature workshops, lectures, visual art, film, performances and a space where dialogues can emerge into action in our various communities through proposals for continued organizing and solidarity building.”

How incredible that in L.A. you can catch not one, but two dyke marches each year! There’s this one and the WeHo Dyke March. No matter what, it’s lots of ladies and lots of fun.
Los Angeles Pride

At the Beach: L.A. Black LGBT Pride

This the oldest and longest-running Black Pride in America, with more than 20,000 showing up for this annual week-long event. Lots of parties, some just for women.
Outfest: Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival
Mid-Jul, 2009 (TBA)
This LGBT film fest started up in 1982, and since then it has pretty much grown into one of the world’s primo queer film festivals. Nowadays Outfest lasts almost two weeks and shows hundreds of flicks, many of them just for the girls. Add in a few dozen parties, also with a number of them for the bent girls, and you’ve got a recipe for success.
Serafemme

This Queer Women of Color Music Festival is a groundbreaking one-day outdoor festival showcasing artists of various genres including hip-hop, R&B, acoustic, soul, funk & spoken word as well as arts, crafts and food vendors.
Centre Court Championships
Late Aug - Early Sep, 2009 (TBA)
This is the big annual tennis championship for the Los Angeles Tennis Association, the largest gay and lesbian tennis association in the world. This event is always held through Labour Day weekend and attracts up to 250 players from across North America.
LA Femme Film Festival
Mid-Oct, 2009 (TBA)
This four-day festival “focuses on women filmmakers' platforming their commercial films for the world wide audience. It is a Festival for those women who want to have an equal opportunity in commercial entertainment desiring to change, enhance, or become leaders in the industry as a Director, Writer, Producer or Director of Photography.”
LA/Valley Pride
Mid-Oct, 2009 (TBA)
A one-day Pride event held on the on the back lot of CBS Studio Centre in Studio City. The event starts with a community day wiht 100+ community groups setting up information tables. There's also a couple of stages for performance and an evening dance party.
