Montreal, Canada
Introduction
Bonjour Montreal! This beautiful metropolis in la belle province of Quebec is said by many to be one of the most lesbian-friendly cities in North America, for both tourists and locals alike. It’s not uncommon for lesbian couples to be seen walking hand-in-hand pretty much anywhere in the city… and let me tell you, Montreal lesbians are babes! I know, it may not be politically correct to say it like that, but many of the ladies here just ooze style you rarely find elsewhere….and that French accent really is charming.
Montreal is officially a French city, but there’s a large English population as well, and many locals are comfortable in both languages (but remember to say "bonjour" and "merci" whenever possible.) The gay village here is huge compared to many other cities (spanning along Ste-Catherine street from St-Hubert to Papineau streets... about a dozen blocks), but as usual, it’s primarily a male destination. You’ll still see lots of lesbians in the restaurants and there are even a couple of clubs in this area just for us bent gals, but the overall feeling when you walk around is "boy, there sure are a lot of gay men around here!" However, this summer you will probably see a few more women here because they've closed off the street to traffic and have made it completely pedestrian until the beginning of September! Since this is usually only done at Pride, it really feels like it will be Pride in the Village all summer long this year!
Not that many lesbians actually live around the gay village, but there are other neighbourhoods that tend to attract the ladies including the Mile End (between St. Laurent and Parc avenue, east to west and Bernard to St-Viateur, north to south) and the Plateau (Parc Lafontaine to St. Denis, east to west and Mont-Royal to Roy, north to south). One place where you can easily play spot the lesbian, especially in the summertime, is at the Jean-Talon market, a huge outdoor farmers market by the Jean-Talon metro station.
Unfortunately, there is no "clubs just for bent gals" in Montréal at the moment. A lot of lesbian can be found at Le Drugstore, a big an not classy bar with gay guys and gay girls, mosty during the week-end. Other wise, you need to find the partys and events!
