After Work Mondays (Mondays at Sortie NY)
Sad to see the weekend come to an end? Well, it doesn't have to be all bad. This new after work party (launched May, 2008) is a spot for all gays and lesbians to enjoy a drink and bite to eat in a cool Hellsea space with great music. People are welcome anytime after 5 p.m.
329 W. 51st St.
New York
Bum Bum Bar
Pronounced "boom boom", this club is located just a few blocks away from Chueca (see below) in Queens. It's known as a mixed gay and lesbian bar, but come Saturday nights it's all about the ladies who tend to fall into the "butch/femme" categories. Lots of salsa and easy good times, crowds here are slightly more "mature" in age.
6314 Roosevelt Ave.
Woodside, Queens
Cattyshack
Welcome to New York’s most popular dyke bar… and it isn’t even in Manhattan! Nope, this one’s in Park Slope and many a Manhattan girl has been known to make the subway ride all the way out to Brooklyn for the Cattyshack parties. For those of us who’ve been partying in New York for longer than we care to admit, this is the latest venture from Brooke Webster, the superstar behind the former dyke favorite, Meow Mix.

Brooklyn is still "New York City. But we know what you mean.

Of course, it was pretty dead on Sunday =(

Choice Cu*ts (last Friday of the month at Sultana)
Replace that little star with an “n” and you get what this night is all about. The promoters call it "a rare party for raw queers", aka a rock’n’roll dyke party in Brooklyn with DJ Lesbian Van Halen behind the turntables.
160 N. 4th St.
Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Chueca Bar (Fridays at Bombay)
This used to be a full-time Latina lesbian bar out in Woodside, Queens, but as of June, 2008 it moved and is now only a weekly event, taking place in Astoria, Queens. All the same, this is the place to get your salsa on with very cute girls who know how to dance.
32-18 Steinway St.
Astoria, Queens
Cubby Hole
The Cubby Hole opened back in 1994, but this neighbourhood dyke bar remains a constant favorite, even garnering the 2007 best lesbian bar of the year award from New York magazine. This popular West Village hangout has a down-to-earth, yet festive atmosphere (look at the ceiling and you’ll see what I mean), and welcomes queer boys and straights who also feel at home here.
281 W. 12th St.
West Village, New York
Desilicious (3rd Saturday of the month at Club Shelter)
A Bollywood-themed gay dance night especially for queer boys of Pakistani and Indian descent, but also attracts a good number of gay women thanks to the party’s lovely lesbian resident DJ, Ashu Rai.
150 Varick St.
New York
Eden (Wednesdays at Union Square Lounge)
Upscale lesbian party with guest DJs, stylish gals (think L Word ), tasty treats and other unexpected adventures. The evening starts early, anytime after 6 p.m. when happy hour begins.... but continues until the wee hours. The entrance is just below the coffee shop. Eden is definitely the mid-week girl party in Manhattan.
27 Union Square W.
New York
Excelsior Park Slope
A Park Slope neighbourhood queer bar. You’ll see more gay men than women, but it’s such a relaxed spot that all are welcome. Lovely outdoor garden and crazy-cool jukebox selections.
390 5th Ave.
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Femme Fatale First Fridays (First Friday of the month at Origine)
Wow, yet another new lesbian party launched in autumn, 2008! This time round it's a monthly event, aimed at the femmey gals. It looks like the party is especially aimed at African American and Latina women.
71 Spring St.
New York
Ginger’s Bar
Great Park Slope dyke bar that welcomes all. You’ll find the prerequisite pool table, juke box and video games, with an added bonus of a great patio. Laid back spot for an easy drink and conversation.
363 5th Ave.
Park Slope, Brooklyn
Girl Code (1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at Sapony Night Club)
It might be a bit out of the way in Astoria, but for the girls who like to get their Latin dance on, this will be a great new place to party!
37-27 32nd St.
Astoria, Queens
GirlNation (Saturday nights at Nation)
Nation is a total straight bar six nights of the week, but on Saturdays the lesbians take over this three-floor spot. The GirlNation party has been running solid for more than three years now, so you can usually expect a good crowd.
12 W. 45th St.
New York
GirlNation Downtown (last Friday of the month at the Stonewall Inn)
GirlNation brings their famous midtown party downtown for this new monthly event. They started out the party at China 1, but have now moved to the infamous Stonewall Inn.

Girlzparty
This group of girl party promoters is involved with tons of events across NYC which are especially popular with African American women. Check their site to see if they have anything coming up.
Henrietta Hudson
Small lesbian bar that’s a perpetual favorite, especially on weekends. This is where you’ll find the most varied cross-section in town from baby dykes to grandma lesbians and all in between. All girls, all the time, seven days a week.

The last time I was here, the barmaid was sooo sweet. Probably because the place was a bit quiet. It was a Saturday afternoon after all.

Hudson Heels
This monthly party brings the sounds you usually hear at the gay boy bars, but spins it for the gals. Check their website for dates and locations.
Laid
Fun, somewhat monthly queer party that mainly attracts women (not surprising, since it's a lesbian promoter who hosts the event!) Seeing as it doesn't have a fixed date, that also means it doesn't have a fixed venue. But if it ends up in Brooklyn, Laid usually takes place at South Paw and in Manhattan they go for the Knitting Factory. This party is very popular with NYC women, so check their Myspace page for dates.
Lesbo-A-Go-Go (Fridays at the Stonewall Inn - upstairs)
Make sure you go upstairs, not to the main floor, when you arrive at this party. If you make a wrong move, you might be traumatized by the male go-go boys shakin' their thang. Upstairs though, you'll be delightfully pleased by girls doing the same thing.

Love Muscle (2nd Wednesday of the month at Happy Ending)
"Meet your Hosts Glenn Marla and Sequinette in the dirty downstairs of Happy Ending for a spectacular romp of kink and glitter. Dance to resident Fucci plus rotating guest DJs, go-go's and performance extravagants. Experience titillating visuals and interactive installations at this fancy free soiree; like Moulin Rouge with a disco ball." Brand new polysexual party for bent girls, boys and all in-between.
302 Broome St.
New York
Lovergirl NYC (Saturdays at Pacha)
Huge weekly dance party heavy on the hip-hop, R&B and reggae. This party had been roving for quite some time, but as of August, 2008, they've found their new home in the Patchita Room at Pacha. It's a great space with comfy banquettes and a great dancefloor. There is a separate entrance to this party that is not the general Pacha entrance-- just keep your eyes peeled for the Lovergirl banner.
618 W. 46th St.
New York
Metropolitan Bar (especially on Wednesday nights for Girls, Girls, Girls)
Williamsburg’s first queer bar, the Metropolitan is cool because it is a mixed space, attracting hipster homos, both boys and girls. Faux hawks, tattoos and vintage tees are the uniform du jour here with indie rock playing overhead. It’s a laid back space with a lovely backyard with picnic tables and chairs for the summer months, along with a free Sunday BBQ. Wednesday is their weekly dyke night party.

Moments (Mondays at 49 Grove)
A great way to ease yourself into the new work week, this weekly all-girl soiree starts early, at about 8ish. A long-running party, it used to take place at Moments Lounge, but in August, 2008 moved to the bigger and very swish 49 Grove.
