Sports Associations
Big Apple Softball League
New York’s LGBT Softball League, and about 30-40% of their players are women. Since these are organised teams you won’t be able to play, but cheering from the first base line is a definite option.
Brooklyn Blades Women’s Ice Hockey Club
As a visitor you certainly can’t hit the ice with these gals, but hockey afficianados can absolutely cheer on the teams during regular season play (that’s September-April).
Fast and Fab
LGBT cycling and social club. This is one of the rare gay and lesbian sporting groups where you will often find as many women as men participating, especially when the rider leader is a woman. However, to be part of this gang you need to be a member and pay their $30 annual membership fee.
Front Runners New York
The NYC leg of the international running and jogging league offers three weekly fun runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The Tuesday evening fun run is held at Prospect Park in Brooklyn whereas the Wednesday evening and Saturday morning fun runs are held at Central Park in Manhattan. Newbies should introduce themselves the first time to be paired with a buddy.
Juliana's Anglers
"The purpose of our club is to encourage all women interested in fly fishing to enjoy the sport with other women by making fishing accessible through education, conservation, planned activities, and events. Juliana's welcomes women at all levels of the sport, from the curious who have never held a rod, to avid fishers who spend as much time on the water as on land."
Metropolitan Tennis Group
Even though most of their events are for members, they hold monthly singles and doubles parties open to all.
Out of Bounds New York
An LGBT umbrella sporting association that groups together a huge number of gay and lesbian sporting groups, from cycling to cheerleading to martial arts.
Prospect Park Women’s Softball League
The Park Slope women’s league has about a dozen teams and they play several games a week. Now you can’t join in on their regular play, but during the summer months they organize a Sunday afternoon pick-up game.
Ski Bums
NYC’s gay and lesbian ski and snowboarding group. You do have to be a member of their organization to partake (for legal responsibility reasons), but membership isn’t too expensive and they organize several trips a year and make an effort to attract more women members.
Sundance Outdoor Adventure Society / Sundance Women
Sundance Outdoor Adventure Society is an outdoors group for the entire LGBT community, but in this case, they really do make an effort to include women. In fact, there's even a Yahoo group called Sundance Women whose purpose is to “foster a community of women in Sundance for staying in touch about participating in and organizing Sundance outings. Club activities include hiking, biking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, downhill and cross-country skiing, and metro events.”

Team New York Aquatics

The Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE)
It’s mainly lesbian and bisexual women who run this Park Slop centre, offering martial arts and self-defense classes for the LGBT community or women only.
