Restaurants & Cafes
Bela's
A lesbian-owned, vegetarian/vegan hole-in-the-wall that's usually pretty packed. Meals here are super-cheap and super-tasty, which means meat-lovers will still feel satisfied at the end of the meal.

Bueno y Sano
Cheap'n tasty Mexican food. The grilled shrimp burrito is amazing and there's a number of vegetarian options on the menu as well.

Del Ray Bar and Grill
A snazzy bistro with delicious contemporary American food – try the cumin-and-coriander-dusted ahi tuna or goat-cheese topped portabello-mushroom "steak."

Green Street Café
One of my very favorite restaurants in Northampton, the gay-owned Green Street Café is located on the edge of the Smith College campus, just a few blocks from the heart of downtown. Their menu is filled with French-inspired recipes created with local organic produce, much of it grown in their own backyard. It's one of the pricier restaurants in town, but worth every penny. A perfect date night or Sunday brunch spot.

Haymarket Café
A total hipster joint on two floors. Upstairs it's students with laptops sipping coffee or smoothies (which they call a "Spanking" here. I dare you to go to the counter and say "Can I please have a spanking?") and downstairs it's everybody else enjoying simple, yet hearty, vegetarian plates. Even if you're a confirmed carnivore, you'll still enjoy these meals.

Herrell's Ice Cream
On par (or even beyond) Ben and Jerry's, Herrell's homemade ice cream is to die for. The have more than 100 flavors, but only sell about 30 at a time. If you want to go extra decadent, have your favorite candy smooshed into your ice cream or have a dollop of their signature chocolate whipped cream put on top. Expect long line-ups on summer nights, then scoot across the street to sit down on the hill and eat it (even though there are signs saying not to sit there, everybody still does it.)

Mama Iguana's
From the same owners as the Del Ray and Spoleto, Mama Iguana's serves up excellent Mexican-inspired cuisine. They also serve what are considered by many to be the best margaritas in town.

Paul and Elizabeth's
For upscale gourmet veggie and seafood cuisine, you won't be disappointed.

Spoleto
A higher-end Italian restaurant with innovate recipes (the vodka cream ravioli is a constant favorite). There's a glass window in front of the kitchen, so depending upon where you're sitting, you'll be able to watch the chefs prepare your meal. Save some room for dessert (go for the creme brulee!)

Woodstar Café
Another lesbian-popular cafe serving great coffee, yummy sandwiches and fabulous pastries and muffins. Especially great for lunch or lingering.
