Comedy shows

Provincetown is an amazing spot to check out lesbian stand-up comics, playing a variety of venues. In recent years I’ve enjoyed Kate Clinton, Maggie Cassella, Margaret Cho and Lea Delaria. One of the best places to find out what’s on is at the dyke section of Herring Cove Beach where flyer girls wander the beach handing out advertisements for the latest shows. Same thing along Commercial Street. You can also check out Provincetown Magazine for all of the latest listings.

Herring Cove Beach

If you visit Provincetown, you must spend time at the beach. The sea is Provincetown’s raison d’etre, and Herring Cove is where you go. Seeing as this is P’town, the beach is pretty much separated into three distinct areas: gay men in the beach's far left section, lesbians just southeast of the parking lot and straights mainly stick to the right side by the snack bar.  While the boys get by with beach towels the size of dishcloths, lesbians travel with a lot more baggage (surprise, surprise). Watch the gals haul in their cooler, beach chairs, parasols, snacks, magazines, sun screen, beach towels, change of clothes, tents for puppies and/or children…. You get the picture. That’s why the lesbian beach is closest to the parking lot!

If you’re driving in from town, go into the parking lot, then head up towards the bike path. Park as near to the bike path as you can then follow the pathway through the dunes to the beach and that’s where you’ll find the women. If you’re cycling in from town, pass the first area where you see lots of bikes parked, that’s for the boy beach. Ride right through to the end by the parking lot, park your bike, then follow the instructions above.

New Provincetown Players

P’town’s professional theatre presents several shows a year. Many of them have some kind of homo bent, but only a few are especially for the ladies. However, make time to check out their annual women’s week production in October.
