This exceptionally important organization collects, preserves, and interprets the history of GLBT people. Not only do they archive documents important to our history as a community, but they also present a number of regular exhibits that are absolutely worth checking out.

James C. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center (at the San Francisco Public Library)
It may officially be called a centre, but in reality this is the home of the largest collection of LGBT literature in the world. The centre is named for the donor who spearheaded the project, James C. Hormel, probably known best as the first openly gay U.S. ambassador (he was stationed in Luxembourg). Beyond the books, magazines, films, videos, manuscripts and more, the Centre also spearheads a number of regular exhibits.

Kabuki Springs
Located in the Japan Center, Kabuki Springs is another Japanese bathhouse offering dry sauna, steam room, cold pool, hot pool and of course massages. Unlike Osento, Kabuki Springs isn’t exclusively for women. However, it is women-only on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Osento Baths
A women-only bath house based on the Japanese word “sento” which means bath. “O” is an honorary term in Japan, and that founder wanted all her visitors to enjoy this “honorary” bath. Don’t confuse this with boy saunas. There’s no sex here, just relaxation. Enjoy the hot tub, saunas and massages.

Pink Triangle Park
A civil rights park by Market and Castro streets is easy to spot with its 15 towering granite pylons, each inlaid with a pink triangle, to honour and commemorate the approximately 15,000 members of the LGBT community who died under the Nazi regime.
Purple Moon Dance Project
“The mission of Purple Moon Dance Project is to increase the visibility of lesbians and women of color and to encourage social change, peace and healing in our society through the medium of dance. Purple Moon's work is "diversity made physical!" They provide workshops and classes and present shows throughout the year.
Queer Ballroom Studios
SF’s first queer-run Ballroom studio, that is also home to the Queer Jitterbugs. Most nights of the week you can learn some kind of formal dance, just check the website for details.
Queer Cultural Centre
“QCC is a multidisciplinary arts presenting organization that conducts artistic and interpretive programs exploring queer identity issues.” From films to photo to performance art, there’s a lot of interesting work going on here. They also present the annual Queer Arts Festival every summer.

Queer Food For Love
Where, oh where, should this listing go? Queer Food For Love offers so many things... an opportunity to dine on amazing cuisine, a social group that honors food as a community commodity, and a chance to meet queers of all colors. Queer Food For Love is a take-off of the Parisian group of the same name. It's a group of volunteer food afficianados who meet somewhat regularly and invite others to join them for a communal dinner.
Queer Jitterbugs
Almost every night of the week they have same-sex dances and classes in everything from the Jitterbug to the Lindy to Ballroom and Latin dancing.
