Bada-Bing (last Saturday of the month at the Flinders Hotel)

No, this is not a Sopranos inspired strip club, but rather “a night of urban sounds for girls, courtesy of the Bitch team (see Friday nights at Mars Lounge). DJs Sveta, Renae Stanton and Mr Flynn spin hip-hop, soul, RnB and hip-house. Upstairs is the High Rollers Room with card tables, arcade games, lap dancers and table service. Dress for the occassion. Bling is IN.”  Bada-Bing used to happen on the 1st Saturday of the month, but as of June, 2008 it changed to the last Saturday of the month.

Bitch (1st Friday of the month at Mars Lounge)

For almost three years Bitch was a popular weekly lesbian dance party here in Sydney, but they decided to take a bit of a break and have now re-launched as a monthly event in August, 2008.

Candy Lips Parties

Now these girl parties only happen once every few months, but mmm mmm, they are well worth the wait. With the delectable love police watching over (cute gals all decked up in their finest constable gear) they’re ready to haul you for any infraction (if you’re lucky enough!) One interesting note of interest… several hundred women attend these events, but their notoriety also attracted an unpleasant and unwanted male clientele. In summer, 2007, Candy Lips applied for, and won, an exemption from the Anti-Discrimination act. This means they can now legally forbid men from entering their parties.

Cherry (4th Friday of the month at Slide)

What started out as a one-off party in the summer of 2007 proved so successful that it’s now a monthly event. Cherry is presented by some of the hottest dyke DJs and party promoters in Australia, in association with the women of the former Candy Bar out of London.

Chic Habit

"The concept behind new Indie Girl Night - Chic Habit, is to have female up ad coming DJs and Djs from influential Australian bands spin the tunes (which ever way they like) for a fresh new night on the scene!"  Right now this is a somewhat monthly event, but check their Myspace page for upcoming dates and venues.

Club Arak (occasionally at Manning Bar)

A Middle Eastern queer dancing extravaganza! This oh-so occasional dance party is full of hotties getting down in an amazing east-meets-west extravaganza. In reality, there are only about two of these parties a year, with one of them usually taking place during Mardi Gras.

Fag Tag (roaming monthly party)

"Fag Tag is a regular party that takes over a different venue in Sydney each time, or Fag Tags it."  Like the guerilla gay bar parties happening in many cities in the United States, "It's about getting together all of your friends - gay, lesbian, straight and all in between - and partying outside of your normal environment. Each time a different, traditionally straight, venue is chosen to be Fag Tagged based on its music and atmosphere.  It's one way of giving gays, lesbians and their friends an alternative night out rather than the usual, limited choices."

Monthly pansexual BSDM fetish party, with a particular bent towards the empowerment of women. Women rule here (including a lot of lesbians), and no unwanted hankypanky from men will be accepted. Reduced admission fee if dressed to party and keep your eyes open for the entrance in the rear lane (you dirty birdy, I’m talking about the club entrance).

Mix and Mingle (2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at Zanzibar Pub)

This successful, twice-monthly party is hosted by the gang from the social group With the Girls. It's a totally casual and open event that starts early (about 7:30ish) and attracts a total gamut of women aged from the late 20s to the 60s!  The main objective is to hang out, have fun and meet new women in a non-threatening environment.  The gals take over the Lounge room of the Zanzibar Pub for this one.

Poptarts (Monday nights at the Empire Hotel)

Not necessarily a lesbian evening, but most definitely a girl-centric musical playhouse, Poptarts is a great place to hang on those slow and lonely Monday nights. Poptarts is an evening of up-and-coming female-fronted pop bands and female songwriters. Usually about half of the performers are acoustic, the other half are bands. If it’s the second Monday of the month, boys take over the stage with their Popstuds performances.

Queer Central (Wednesday nights at the Sly Fox)

With a delicious pub name like that, it’s hard to disappoint. While this is “officially” a mixed establishment, the Sly Fox is a popular dyke spot right next to the lezzie popular neighbourhood of Newtown, especially on Wednesday nights for the Queer Central party. There’s a stage for drag kings and girls with guitars, and pool tables in back.

Zone Out (Sunday afternoons at Mr. Mary's)

Mr. Mary's is a fairly new spot, party resto, part bar, part exhibit space, all with a bent twist.  This Sunday afternoon event with loungey acid funk in the background is especially popular with the women. It starts totally early, as of 2 p.m.
