Bitch (1st Friday of the month at Oxford Art Factory)

Bitch has been a mainstay of the local Sydney lesbian crowd for a number of years now, basically moving from venue to venue.   The Oxford Art Factory is where Bitch lays its hat for now. Great dance music, fun girls, a perfect night out!

Bitch Entertainment

These lovely ladies are behind the monthly Bitch parties (surprise, surprise!), but they also host a number of one-off events throughout the year.  It's definitely worth taking a look at their site to see if there are any coming up while you're in Sydney.

Candy Lips Parties

Now these girl parties only happen once every few months, but mmm mmm, they are well worth the wait. With the delectable love police watching over (cute gals all decked up in their finest constable gear) they’re ready to haul you for any infraction (if you’re lucky enough!) One interesting note of interest… several hundred women attend these events, but their notoriety also attracted an unpleasant and unwanted male clientele. In summer, 2007, Candy Lips applied for, and won, an exemption from the Anti-Discrimination act. This means they can now legally forbid men from entering their parties.

Cherry (Sundays when it's a public holiday weekend at Slide)

Cherry's a party that's been kicking around in Sydney for a few years now.  It started as a one-off, then became occasional, worked its way up to monthly and now it's back on Sundays whenever there's a long weekend.  Even though it's not a regular fixture, these parties are still extremely popular when they happen.

Dolphins Dance (1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at Parramatta Golf Club)

A perfect way to round out the weekend, at least a couple of times a month!  More of a mixed gay and lesbian party as compared to just for the ladies, it's still hosted by lesbians and you'll certainly find lots of girls there all the same. And yes, it's at the golf club.

Girl Thing (3rd Saturday of the month at QBar)

Girl Thing is a monthly cook kids dance party that will not disappoint.  It's a two DJ party with indie party tunes in the main room and electro dance music in the smaller, second room.

Hellfire Sydney (every 3rd Friday of the month at the Gaff - use the rear lane entry)

Monthly pansexual BSDM fetish party, with a particular bent towards the empowerment of women. Women rule here (including a lot of lesbians), and no unwanted hankypanky from men will be accepted. Reduced admission fee if dressed to party and keep your eyes open for the entrance in the rear lane (you dirty birdy, I’m talking about the club entrance).

Hotrod Sundays (Sundays at the Colombian Hotel)

While the Colombian generally caters to the gay boy crowd, on Sunday nights rockin’ dykes have a place to hang.

Lemons With a Twist (1st Friday of the month at Slide)

A women's networking night, this is your chance to hang with the ladies while downing drinks and listening to cool music.  Since it's a networking event of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association, things start early, as of 6 p.m.  You don't have to be a SGLBA member to join in on the festivities.

Mix and Mingle (monthly at Zanzibar Pub)

This successful, twice-monthly party is hosted by the gang from the social group With the Girls. It's a totally casual and open event that starts early (about 7:30ish) and attracts a total gamut of women aged from the late 20s to the 60s!  The main objective is to hang out, have fun and meet new women in a non-threatening environment.  The gals take over the Lounge room of the Zanzibar Pub for this one. Check out their website for upcoming dates.

Poptarts (Monday nights at the Empire Hotel)

Not necessarily a lesbian evening, but most definitely a girl-centric musical playhouse, Poptarts is a great place to hang on those slow and lonely Monday nights. Poptarts is an evening of up-and-coming female-fronted pop bands and female songwriters. Usually about half of the performers are acoustic, the other half are bands. If it’s the second Monday of the month, boys take over the stage with their Popstuds performances.

Q+A (2nd Friday of the month at Sly Fox)

Q+A is short for "queer and alternative", so you can imagine what the feel of this party is all about. A relative newbie on the Sydney scene (launched January, 2009), this is a mixed queer party, but lesbian hosted. Check their Myspace page for their latest news.

Queer Central (Wednesday nights at the Sly Fox)

With a delicious pub name like that, it’s hard to disappoint. While this is “officially” a mixed establishment, the Sly Fox is a popular dyke spot right next to the lezzie popular neighbourhood of Newtown, especially on Wednesday nights for the Queer Central party. There’s a stage for drag kings and girls with guitars, and pool tables in back.

Popular weekly dyke night with a different vibe each week. Don’t be surprised to hear some live music from up-and-coming lesbian performers and regular guest DJs.

Ya Leil

A new, very occasional, queer Middle Eastern dance party from lesbian DJ Gemma (of the former Club Arak fame).  They launched this night during the 2009 gay Mardi Gras, but hopefully it will come back every few months the way Arak did.

Zip and Babydoll Parties

These occasional events are hosted by local promoters Feisty and Mandy Rollins.  Babydoll is their somewhat more mainstream party, while Zip offers just a bit more of, well, zip.  The parties are held in various locations, so check their Myspace page for all of the latest info.

Zone Out (Sunday afternoons at Mr. Mary's)

Mr. Mary's is a fairly new spot, party resto, part bar, part exhibit space, all with a bent twist.  This Sunday afternoon event with loungey acid funk in the background is especially popular with the women. It starts totally early, as of 2 p.m.
